Konev Ivan Stepanovich was a Marshal of the Soviet Union, a famous commander, commander of a number of fronts during the Great Patriotic War. He brilliantly organized and conducted a number of important operations, participated in the Battle of Moscow, the Battle of Kursk, the storming of Berlin, and liberated Prague. Determination in conducting operations brought Konev fame as a master of the environment, proximity to the fighters - the title of a soldier's marshal.

The future marshal was born in the village of Lodeyno, Nikolsky district, Vologda province (now Podosinovsky district, Kirov region) in a peasant family on December 28, 1897.

Marshal Konev's name is associated with brilliant victories in the final stage of the war. The troops of the 1st Ukrainian Front under his command participated in three major strategic operations: Vistula-Oder, Berlin and Prague.

Ivan Stepanovich Konev has been repeatedly awarded for outstanding services to the Fatherland. He became a Marshal of the Soviet Union, was twice awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (1944, 1945), he was awarded the Order of Victory, seven Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, three Orders of the Red Banner, two Orders of Suvorov I degree, the Order of the Red Star, honorary weapons, and many other state awards. Among the awards of 27 foreign orders, I.S.Konev is a Hero of the Czechoslovak Republic and a Hero of the People's Republic of China.

In Vologda, a street was named in memory of the Soviet commander, a monument was erected in 2010, and in 2014, the name of Ivan Konev was assigned to Vologda school No. 37.
